Today in the UK its Mothering Sunday. I’ll be celebrating Mother’s Day in May. This is because my mother lives in Australia…
What’s the difference between Mother’s Day and Mothering Sunday (which we all call Mother’s Day anyway..) Well, Mothering Sunday originated in the UK in the 17th century and started as a Christian Festival, the 4th Sunday of Lent. Mother’s Day was an American innovation in 1913 and was largely a result of Julia Ward Howe ‘s pioneering for woman’s rights. So Mothering Sunday and Mother’s Day were two distinct occasions with very different beginnings but the sentiments and traditions around each are the same. A bit of trivia for you!
I hope everyone celebrating with their Mums today have a lovely time.
I thought I’d share some of my lovely ‘Mum’ shots from various kids shoots I’ve done.
Happy Mother’s Day / Mothering Sunday!
